Project Overview

These Sports Icons and Mascot were designed for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, which finally won the second prize in the national competition.

We did the design research about icons and mascot for the past Olympic Games extensively in order to understand the trend and innovate from the history. As the first author of this project, I created all the icons shown below with combination of the geometric lines and local elements. They are endowed with special meaning of Nanjing in the sense of lightings and ancient bricks. They are also highly aligned with the logo for the Youth Olympics. For the Mascot Design, we selected turnip - the object that typically represents Nanjing citizens - to do the visualization. This one illustrated by me was named "NINGNING", which is the abbreviation of Nanjing. The postures were specially designed to be based on Chinese culture and manners.
