The Background

Thinx has always been thriving to be an industry leader and break the taboo around periods, and we are doing that not only by creating innovative period solutions but also advocating for and educating people with periods via our blog Periodical. In the blog we have different kinds of content like health knowledge, campaigns, product tips and also lifestyles etc. We’ve got quite some followers and people would actually interact with us.

With the blog content growing, the copy team always wanted a better way to organize the content and we also want our audience to have a better experience reading online. Thus, we decided to take this site redesign opportunity to refresh our blog experience with better navigation, as well as adding different article templates, so it’s easier both for our copy writers to edit and for our readers to glance through.

This project was completed as part of Thinx Website Redesign and will be launching in early July 2022.

The Product

A place to read, learn and relate

The redesign of Thinx Blog has really taken our passionate audience and amazing content in to heart - it not only helps user navigate through the articles easily, but also provides templates for our copy writers to edit directly.

In the blog, we talk about health tips, big initiatives and a lot of different things about how to take care of ourselves, Thus, we recategorized all content into 3 different buckets, and gave them a specific color code which would help user and editor identify the topics naturally. We also created a navigation that follows the user everywhere so they just jump around whenever they need to. Additionally, tags and authors are also way to learn about different content.

We added a lot more hierarchy in the information structure as well. The featured “menstruation 101” and other articles on homepage would surface what’s important for users to read. There are editorial content towards the bottom if they want to explore. We also created different article templates for different content that includes image carousels, quotes, recommendations etc.

The Highlight

Navigating the blog like reading your magazine

The sticky blog navigation was one big update we made to the blog, as one of the major concern from our readers was that it’s hard to go from article to article previously.

In the new blog, the nav will follow users everywhere from homepage to bucket page to article page, so they can always have an easy access if they want to go to a different set of topics. It’s set to open on default but user can always close it. There’s an email subscribe element to it on articles in case our new users would love to follow us.

In order to help with the navigation, we assigned different color theme to different bucket, which could register with the audience when they try to look for something specific. We also added other different ways to navigate like hashtags and author collections, so users won’t stuck in the bucket world.

The design of the sticky name is mimicking a bookend which user can always go back to. And all the ways of categorization would add a lot of flexibility like they are just picking magazines from the shelf to their interests
